The Detective’s Dad
Short Documentary | 2023
De Nederlandse Filmacademie

A mysterious detective wants to know more about his biological father and decides to search for answers to all the questions in his mind. He gets help from two kids who also don’t know their biological father, Duuk (12) and Maarten (11). The boys give the detective advice by sharing their own experience.
Just like the detective, Duuk and Maarten are also very curious. Which eye color does he have? Is he tall or short? Where does he live? It’s not easy, missing someone you don’t know.
The Detective’s Dad is a documentary made in the third year of the NFA (Film Academy, Amsterdam). In The Netherlands, it can be watched here. The film has been screened at different festivals such as Cinekid and Let’s Doc, and was part of the educational program at IDFA.
